Scott (Iowa) scored the tiebreaking goal late in the second half to hand the Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team a 2-1 loss Wednesday in the Chargers’ first match of the season.
Scott scored the game’s opening goal in the 14th minute, but Sandburg (0-1) evened it in the 38th minute on an unassisted goal by sophomore Mike Pavon (Galveston, Texas/Willis).
It stayed that way until the 81st minute, when the Eagles’ Kevin Rodriguez got one past chargers keeper Saahil Kapoor (Guilford, England/Guilford County) for the game winner.
The teams each had six shots in the contest, and the Eagles had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Kapoor made three saves in net for Sandburg.
The Chargers are in action again at 2 p.m. Friday at Hawkeye (Iowa).
